⭐️Once you add a session to your Schedule, it virtually "reserves" your spot. If you are unable to attend one of your reserved sessions, please remove it from your Schedule ASAP. In addition, we have limited access to only allow for adding one session per time slot.
⭐️Sessions marked as Full, will NOT BE ABLE TO BE JOINED.
⚠️Due to the virtual, open nature of our event, reserving your virtual seat does not necessarily guarantee your spot in the presenter’s chosen video conference platform. Both the presenters and event facilitators are not responsible for guaranteeing your virtual seat. We have tried to employ strategies to reduce the chance of this from happening.

Organized by Adam Wiseman, Digital Learning and Innovation Coordinator, McDowell County Schools and Stacy Lovdahl, Educator on Loan, NCDPI Digital Teaching and Learning, our goal is to provide teachers with access to the expertise of North Carolina educators and beyond, who are successfully using virtual/distance learning tools and strategies.

Integrating for Independence: Using Google Sites to Create and Facilitate Self-Paced Student Learning

This session will be facilitated through the use of a website we design and publish and will leave up for participants to have access to later. This website will not only provide a walkthrough of how we build a site but also access to various free resources that we use on a regular basis. This website will also include samples of quizzes, graphic organizers, and samples of student projects. Access to the site will be through the use of a QR code or a link. During the instructional part of this session, participants will complete multiple dot storms (a web-based survey program) to share ideas with each other on things such as topics, project ideas, resources, etc.

Participants will be able to explore the site we created to see how different tools are integrated and to get an idea of what the main project was for the students. Specific activities will be highlighted to show participants how different tools were used by the students in the project. Emphasis is on the differentiated nature of this project between the two classes. (One class being a traditional 7th grade ELA class and the other being a hybrid online 6th grade ELA/Social Studies class).

During the session participants will be lead through a guided walkthrough, using our own website,for building a template. After which they will be able to:
Identify a specific project and project they would like their students to complete
Identify standards outside of the main tested areas that can be integrated into almost any project.
Identify potential materials to use on a website and how to choose resources that differentiate instruction for their project.
Determine the length of their project based on their desired product and resources they want to use.
Identify various mid project assessments they can use to determine students progress on the project as well as understanding of the chosen standards.
Create an outline for their website and/or start building the website for their project.
Identify and use potential integration methods for their website, including linking assignments from google classroom.
Create a map for completing their website.
Start to design and build a website that provides students with an independent learning experience and teachers with an easy to use platform for sharing information.
